Description
Bignell Watkins Hasser Architects provided space planning alternatives as well as interior renovation design services for Mt Ennon Baptist Church. The team was tasked with increasing the seating capacity of the sanctuary by 500 seats without increasing the building footprint. Creative solutions were studied and vetted to reach this goal. Every square inch was utilized and optimized to meet the number.
Ultimately, the band was relocated to a newly constructed orchestra pit. The stage area was reworked to allow more seating while still accommodating the services. The existing inefficient circulation space and choir accommodations wer updated to capture more space. New elevators were installed to make the mezzanine level more accessible and attractive.
The Narthex renovation included improvements to the interior colors and finishes plus the addition of an elevator and stairs that were more easily accessed by the congregation.
