Boys and Girls Club – Lothian, MD

Description

We are currently designing a new facility in Lothian, Maryland for Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County.  Our scope includes designing both the interior and exterior of the roughly 20K sf. facility, including an approximately 8,500 sf. basketball gymnasium, which will be separately accessible for community events. The program for the club includes a teaching kitchen, community pantry, teen center, classrooms and offices, all centered around a roughly 3,500 sf. multi-purpose game room.

The design concept emphasizes security and visual openness for staff to be able to monitor the minor club attendees, as well as durability and flexibility for diverse programming.  The building exterior is styled to fit into its rural setting on a property that was previously farmland and has large windows, dormers, and clerestory glazing for natural light and connection to the landscape.  The site design includes outdoor recreation areas and a learning garden for teaching about agriculture and nutrition.
