Description

Bignell Watkins Hasser completed architectural services for the addition and renovation of Gossett Field House at the University of Maryland, College Park. The renovation/expansion was designed and constructed in three phases. A unique challenge was to integrate three new spaces into the field house for activities currently housed elsewhere on campus. In order to meet this challenge, pavilions were designed facing the stadium to accommodate two of these activities.

Phase I, completed in 2002, consists of a Pavilion that houses an academic support and career development center, administrative offices and computer room for 30 students. Phase II includes an addition to the adjoining side of the building that houses a multipurpose room with a full kitchen, film editing room and dining facilities for athletic functions. The multi-purpose room is wired for press conferences with a TV/studio room, lighting and sound technology. Many of the multi-media functions are also controlled by the film room which edits film and broadcasts to any TV in the facility.

Remodel also included reconfiguration of existing offices and new scoreboard.
